WHY USE WOODEN WICKS? WOOD VS COTTON WICKS

Wood wicks are our favourite and only form of wick that we use to produce ZELIGHT candles! In comparison to cotton wicks, wood wicks generally have a longer burn time as the wick sits a lot lower and wider. You will notice a nice cracking sound from your wood wick - a lot of our customers find it very soothing!

Wood wicks are a lot more natural than cotton wicks and they do not contain the harsh chemicals that cotton wicks are known to hold.

Here at ZELIGHT we have perfected the exact height and width of our wicks to ensure you get the most out of your candle and the longest burn time.

Please ensure your wood wicks are trimmed before each light. Wood wicks do require more care than cotton wicks... but so does making a salad to buying a chocolate bar - but you know which one is better for you. If you don’t have suitable scissors to cut your wick, we recommend using one of the following wick cutters.

WHY WE DON’T RECOMMEND TO USE COTTON WICKS

We highly recommend using wood wicks over cotton wicks. Throughout the years there has been a lot of negative feedback on using cotton wicks. If you do have a cotton wick candle ensure you know what the wick is exactly made from!

Cotton wicks are generally lower in cost as they are made from braided cotton which is then covered in paraffin wax to hold its structure and keep the candle upright.

It has been noted that some cotton wick candles are made from paraffin. Paraffin wax is a soft colourless solid derived from petroleum. It has been reported by CNN in a study that Paraffin wax emitted toxic chemicals like toluene and benzene, where soybean candles did not.

We love and highly recommend wood wicks for all of your candles. Check out our range of wooden wick candles at zelightcollection.com/shop
